Dreamer vs Scientist

Sophia: "Dad, when I gwoh up, I'n goin' to be a stah catcha."

Little Richie: "You can't."

"Yes I can!"

"No you can't"

"Yes I can!  And I will!!!"

"No you can't.  Stars are made of gas and are really hot . . . Why don't you be a mom.  That's easier."

Winter is fast approaching. Today is blustery, cold and gray.  Fall was beautiful here in Logan with warm sunny days and cozy nights, but I can feel the cold of winter creeping in, and I am not sure I am ready.

This is how our house looked just a few weeks ago.
The kids were still playing outside in the evening.
I love the angle of the light in the autumn,  it makes everything look so warm, even though there is a little bit of a chill in the air.  Let's hope I make it through another dreary Logan winter.
I forgot to mention in the last post that even though Richie is smitten with little Grace, he has already started to tell Sophia that "Mom is going to have another baby and this time it is going to be a brother."  What do I do about that?

A Love Story

Richie is in love. From the day he met Grace he has been completely smitten. He loves her so much he wants to kiss her every minute of the day and sometimes I have to prevent him from smothering her. He just can't get enough!

It started in the hospital. . .
. . . and continued when she came home.
He requests pictures with her as often as he can.

Grace thinks Richie is pretty great, too.  She almost always smiles and giggles when she sees him.  Richie says he will always love Grace, and he will never be mean to her.  That is quite the promise.  Do you think I will be able to keep him to it?
p.s. Sophia also loves Grace, she just doesn't have the photo documentation that Richie has.

Halloween

The kids helped scoop out the pumpkins and then I carved them into jack-o-lanterns.
This one is named, Scary Scary Scary Scary.
This one is named, Happy Happy Happy Happy.  (Sophia named them.)
Sophia originally wanted to be a princess but couldn't pass up this Tinkerbell costume when she saw it in the store.
Richie takes his Halloween costumes very seriously!  Isn't he the coolest ninja ever?

Grace was not thrilled about her costume so she only wore it long enough to get these pictures.
We went trick-or-treating with a group of friends.  It was pretty wet and cold and afterward Richie said he would never go outside when it is raining again!  Sophia didn't let the rain get her down and was very unhappy when we went home.  She really loves her candy!  She also really liked yelling "trick-or-treat!"

The Big 3

On October 20, Grace turned three months old!  She is growing so quickly, I can hardly believe it.  She has reached a few milestones in the last three months, like sleeping through the night, giggling and sucking her thumb.  She is one of the happiest babies I have ever seen and has the most beautiful smile, which she shares with me just about every time she sees me.  It makes me so happy.  We love this chubby little girl so much!
A week later, Sophia turned three years old!  She is such a sassy little thing, she is more like 30.  She loves to play dress-up and playing with her princesses.  She also loves getting into things she shouldn't and some days I think she is going to send me to the nut house, but she always keeps me on my toes.  At one point on her birthday I said to her, "When did you grow up?"  She looked at me and very seriously said, "I on't know."  In the last year she has learned to talk, gotten potty trained, moved out of a crib into a bed and learned to ride a tricycle.  She has also moved with us from New Jersey to Blanding to Logan.  What a big year!

On the morning of her birthday Dad showed her the castle birthday cake I made and she exclaimed, "Oh my gooness!  This is the best biwt day EVAH!"
Later I asked her what she wanted for breakfast and I said, "Do you want cereal, or eggs & toast, or oatmeal?"  She pondered for a minute and then replied, "Uhhhhh. . . . . .BIWT DAY CAKE!"  This girl would eat sweets from sunrise to sunset if we let her.

She opened a couple presents before Richie went to school and LOVED the doll Gramma Gail sent.

Later in the day Grandpa and Grandma Call surprised us with a visit.  We went to the Fun Park where we had dinner and the kids played games and in a giant play gym.  They had a great time and it so nice to have the family surprise us!
After the Fun Park we went home and had cake and ice cream and opened more presents.  Sophia was so excited about all her gifts especially the dress up box and her new doll house.
Then we went to see the final dress rehearsal of Seussical the Musical.  It was a long day, but a wonderful day.  As the play was getting over I was snuggling with Sophia and I said to her, "Happy birthday, baby."  And she said, "Happy biwt day to you, Mommy."

Pumpkin Patch

I have a little catching up to do before I post birthday and Halloween. A few weeks ago we went to Idaho for a quick weekend visit with the Calls. We went out to a pumpkin patch Saturday morning and then went to a bowling alley that night for cousin Deacon's first birthday party. The kids had a blast! They loved riding the hay wagon, going through the maze, playing with the animals, playing mini golf and picking out pumpkins at the pumpkin patch, and they are always excited about bowling.
