Cake Artist in the Making

Sophia's birthday is still one month away, but she has been planning all the details since Richie's party.  The other day she was working really hard on a drawing and when she was done she presented me with this design for her cake:

I'm not sure how I will accomplish this cake, but she is pretty determined that it is what she wants and so that I don't forget, she hung it up in the kitchen so I can be reminded every day.  She is definitely a girl who knows what she wants.

Birthday Boy

This post is way over due, but I think I have a good excuse.  I am finally starting to feel like myself and so I'm trying to get back into the swing of things again.

Richie's 7th birthday was at the end of August and before the baby came I thought I would be feeling well enough by his birthday to be able to take care of everything.  Well, I was wrong!  His birthday was only a week and a half after my surgery and I was not ready to do anything.  Luckily he requested a birthday party at the Cache Valley Fun Park and they took care of most of the birthday necessities including dinner and the cake.  He was really happy with his day and I was happy about that because I didn't want his birthday to fall by the wayside as a result of the baby's birth and my recovery.

The day started with him opening his new helmet, knee & elbow pads and gloves.  He was very excited to get to put it all on and ride to school.

I love watching the boys ride away together on their bikes.

Hair Cuts

Sophia asked for a hair cut all summer long, but I wasn't ready to say goodbye to her long hair.  I finally got tired of the daily battle to get her to brush it and style it, because she has such a tender head that brushing out the tangles is like torture.  So, I relented and we made an appointment to get a hair cut.  We also made an appointment for Grace because she had never had a haircut and she had a little bit of the "baby mullet" going on.  We didn't make an appointment for Richie but decided to take him with us at the last minute and see if they could fit him in.  The salon was a cute little place that just does kids so there were little vehicles to sit in and DVDs to watch or video games to play while getting the hair cuts.  There was also a little slide to play on while waiting for your turn.  All the kids got cute hair cuts and they all look ready for a new school year!
